Minutes of Meeting of Suffolk Concert Band held on

Thursday 4th February 2010 at the Royal Hospital School

 

Those present were: Angela Hope, Toby Hope, Simon Pulham, Mark Cheadle, Roger Jones, Gordon Scopes, Trevor Daldry.

 

105.  Apologies for absence

These were received from Tom Rumbold, Russell Banyard.

 

106.  Adoption of minutes held on Thursday 1st December 2009

The minutes were adopted.

 

107.  Matters arising from meeting held on Thursday 1st December 2009

There were no matters arising.

 

108.  Rehearsal Venue

·       Alstons as a venue is no longer an option.

·       Swiss Centre – Gordon is making enquiries.

·       Diabetic Centre – Gordon is making enquiries.

·       RHS – no longer an option, acoustics will still be a problem.

·       Coddenham Community Centre

·       FADOS House – not a permanenet venue but perhaps to hold one rehearsal to see if band will travel.

·       Salvation Army Ipswich.

·       Cowper St. Church

 

The band will be asked again for ideas.

 

109.  Publicity

·       Spa Pavilion - Gordon will contact Judith Newman to see if the charity has done any publicity. If not we will need to get posters done asap.

 

110.  Uniform

i)      Shirts and bowties are being distributed round the band. Angela has requested to buy three more shirts for; Paula Williams, Gary Bachan and Simon Cutts. The committee agreed.

 

ii)     Sarah Scott has now returned her jacket. Angela has written to Marion and Bronwyn Singleton about returning their jackets but has had no response. Angela will now send them an invoice for new jackets. Gary Bachan requires a jacket.

 

iii)   The committee thanked Angela for organising the uniform.

 

111.  AGM 2010

i)      All current committee members that were present at this meeting will be standing for re-election except for Toby. Tom will stand for Librarian and Simon will stand for Assistant Librarian.

 

ii)     The committee agreed that subs should go up by £6 in 2011/2012 and another £6 in 2012/2013. This will take them back up to £60.

 

iii)   Andrew Fairley will be invited to chair the meeting.

 

iv)   Simon proposed that Gordon Scopes should be made a VP. Angela proposed that Simon Pulham should be made an honorary member. The committee agreed to these proposals.

 

112.  Chairman

Trevor apologised for his recent absence but hopes to be back at rehearsals next week.

 

113.  Musical Director

Roger will not be available for the rehearsal on 6th April. The committee agreed to ask Bernard Reader to conduct.

 

114.  Secretary

St. Clements have asked to do their carol service on 12th December at 5pm. The committee agreed.

 

115.  Treasurer

i)       The committee agreed that we should sell/donate old drum kit.

 

ii)     A new glockenspiel has been purchased as previously agreed.

 

iii)   It was suggested that we restrict our new equipment going out on loan. The committee agreed that after the AGM we require a £50 deposit for any loans and all loanees must complete a loan form.

 

iv)   The new drum kit case still needs to be sorted out with Don Young and Sound Attack.

 

116.  Membership Secretary

i)       Gary Bachan has completed a membership application form. Paula Williams needs to be given a form.

 

ii)     Andrew Farthing would like to play trombone.

 

iii)    Denis Kensett will be back soon.

 

117.  Librarian

i)      Simon has been sorting music for the Spa Pavilion with Bernard. Some new music may be purchased for this. Since it has been 40 years since Simon first became Librarian, he has requested that he sorts the music for this concert with Bernard.

 

ii)     Scottish Dances for Wind Band by Malcolm Arnold has been purchased.

 

iii)   When the photocopier moves to the trailer it will require a service.

 

118.  Concert Manager

Nothing to report.

 

119.  Forthcoming Events

119.1.    Other Events

    The committee agreed to a Christmas concert at Castle Hill on Sunday 19th December.
