Minutes of the Meeting of the Suffolk Concert Band held on
Thursday 3rd September 2009 at 47 Offord Close, Ipswich
Those present were: Angela Hope, Simon Pulham, Tom Rumbold, Gordon Scopes, Trevor Daldry, Toby Hope, Russell Banyard, Roger Jones.
61. Apologies for absence
These were received from Mark Cheadle.
62. Adoption of minutes of meeting held on Thursday 2nd July 2009
The minutes were adopted.
63. Matters arising from meeting held on Thursday 2nd July 2009
There were no matters arising.
64. Publicity
· Spa Pavilion
Toby will get posters printed and delivered to Spa Pavilion. About 60xA3/A4 and 100xA5.
· Music on the Hill, Woodbridge
Lucy and Roger have completed posters.
· Christmas Concert
Tom will do a poster for this concert.
65. Insurance
Inventory is currently being compiled.
66. Uniform
Angela reported that a final costing for the new shirts and bowties will be available at the next meeting.
67. Rehearsal Venue
Alstons Building:
· If we went ahead on our current income we would make a loss within the next two years.
· Increases in subs, sponsorship and grants could be used to fund the project.
· It was agreed that we should have a rehearsal at the venue prior to making a decision. A working party will be required to make it habitual. This will be on 21st October. A presentation by the trustees about their plans for the building will be given at the rehearsal.
· Health and safety and fire policies will all need to be considered.
· Change of use and rates need to be discussed with Ian Blofield.

69. Musical Director
Nothing to report.
70. Secretary
i) Spa Pavilion dates for 2010 – 14th March, 31st July and 17th October.
ii) Bernard Reader has accepted our offer of guest conducting in 2010. He would be required from 12th May until 31st July.
iii) Little Bentley Waterways and Garden Show – we will be required from 12-2pm and we will be playing on a bandstand under a marquee.
iv) Martin Bell is unavailable for our concert at the Spa Pavilion this year.
v) Needham Market Community Carol Service has been confirmed for the 14th December.
vi) OCA - We have received payment and thanks for our support at the annual reunion.
vii) Elmhurst Park has been offered on 12th June 2010. The committee agreed that we will have a year off next year but be available for 2011.
viii) Holy Trinity have asked if we would like to participate in their 175th birthday celebrations in 2010.
ix) Holy Trinity rent will go up to £28.50 per week from 1st September.
71. Treasurer
Nothing to report.
72. Membership Secretary
i) John Whelton will be available for the Woodbridge concert.
ii) Ian Burton is available until Christmas. The committee agreed that we should invite him to do the Woodbridge and Spa concerts.
73. Librarian
i) Library move is on hold until we have made a decision about the Alstons building. We have received a bill from FADOS which we already agreed to pay regardless of where the library is.
ii) We have been given permission to perform March of the Roses by Adrian Budgen, commissioned by the Barnet Concert Band. They have also asked if we would like to commission another piece with them.
iii) Simon has also been building relations with the Swansea concert band.
