Minutes of the Meeting of the Suffolk Concert Band held on

Thursday 6th November 2008, at 75 Chatsworth Drive, Ipswich

 

Those present were: Angela Hope, Trevor Daldry, Mark Cheadle, Ray Wilson, Roger Jones, Toby Hope.

 

85.    Apologies for absence

These were received from Simon Pulham and Gordon Scopes.

 

86.    Adoption of minutes of meeting held on Thursday 2nd October 2008

The minutes were adopted with the following correction.

i)    Those present were: should say Toby Hope.

 

87.    Matters arising from meeting held on Thursday 2nd October 2008

74i) The new banners have now been delivered. The committee agreed to get a photo of the band setup at Shotley village hall to send to Mr and Mrs Warren. The committee would like to thank Don Young for all his help with arranging and ordering the banners.

 

77.1) Simon Pulham and Mandy Chinery have taken over the librarian duties for the rest of the year.

 

84.2) The Trip 2009 has now been cancelled due to lack of interest because of the expense.

 

88.    Chairman

i)    Toby offered best wishes to Simon Pulham from the band following his recent illness.

 

ii)  The next committee meeting will be of trustees only to review Roger’s appointment with the band.

 

89.    Musical Director

Due to Simon Pulham’s absence Roger needs to check the trombone section’s availability over the Christmas period.

iv)     At the July meeting (minute 51 (v)) the committee agreed to recommend to the annual meeting that subs for 2009 be remitted. In light of the changed circumstances the committee may wish to reconsider this decision. The committee agreed that subs should no longer be remitted in 2009.

 

92.    Membership Secretary

Trevor reported that Terry Harding is considering retiring from the band at Christmas. If this is to be the case we will need to recruit a new bass player as soon as possible.

 

93.    Librarian

93.1. Library

The container at Alstons is now empty so the library can be moved. Trevor is currently arranging for electricity to be added. Once the library is in place any access to the container will need to be pre-arranged with Trevor. Ray reported that we must let FADOS know as soon as possible that we will no longer require the garage.

 

94.    Concert Manager

Trevor will be fixing the banner box ready for the new banners.

96.    Rehearsal Venue

Trevor to investigate Little Bealings Village Hall.

 

97.    Uniform

49 jackets in use by members.

4 jackets spare.

Chris Robinson, Trevor Brown, Andrew Farthing and Sarah Driver require jackets. Possibly James Leverage.

Natasha Free may have a jacket.

Spare buttons and badges also required.

 

The committee concluded that we need to order new jackets for Chris Robinson, Trevor Brown and Andrew Farthing plus one spare XL jacket. Sarah Driver and James Leverage should be able to use the spare ones. Angela will get the sizes from the 3 members and liaise with Ray and Don Young to place an order with Hanleys.

 

Trevor suggested that we need to unify the rest of the uniform: trousers/skirt, shirt and bowtie. Angela to investigate the costs and implications of this further.

 

98.    Publicity

Roger will produce posters for the Holy Trinity Christmas concert.

 

99.    Forthcoming Events

·       Saturday 29th November 2008 – Shotley Village Hall

Programme received. Concert starts at 7.30pm. Access to hall from 6pm.

 

·       Saturday 13th December 2008 – Carol Service, Landguard Fort

Starts at 6.30pm. Roger will liaise with the organiser David Morgan with regards to the programme.
