Minutes of the meeting of the Suffolk Concert Band held on
Thursday 2nd October 2008 at 4 Ogden Grove, Kesgrave, Ipswich
Those present were: Angela Hope, Simon Pulham, Mark Cheadle, Trevor Daldry, Gordon Scopes, Ray Wilson, Roger Jones, and Toby Pratt.
71. Apologies for absence
These were received from Sarah Scott.
72. Adoption of minutes of meeting held on Thursday 10th July 2008
The minutes were adopted.
73. Matters arising from meeting held on Thursday 10th July 2008
(47ii) Rehearsal venue - Gordon reported that Rushmere Community Centre is not available on a Wednesday night. He is also investigating a hall at Pinewood. Toby mentioned the new Swiss Centre.
74. Matters arising from meeting held on Thursday 4th September 2008
This meeting was not quorate. The following items were discussed:
i) A specimen banner was viewed and the meeting recommend that we go ahead with the order. The committee agreed.
ii) The trip 2009.
iii) The concert at All Hallows, London on 18th October.
75. Chairman
Toby gave his apologies for his non-attendance at September’s meeting.

Nothing to report.
76. Musical Director
Roger has received an email from David Brunning saying thanks for his time in the band.
77. Secretary
77.1. Committee Job Descriptions
Angela reported that Sarah has resigned from her post as Librarian however, she would be happy to continue with the Librarian duties until the AGM. The committee agreed that we should appoint a temporary librarian until the AGM. Simon Pulham and Mandy Chinery will be asked if they could do this.
Three committee positions will now be vacant next year; Chairman, Treasurer and Librarian. The committee discussed suitable candidates:
Ian Bickers, Mandy Chinery, Simon Pulham, Trevor Daldry, Brian Mitchell, Adrian Budgen, Alison Keep, Andrew Farthing, Russell Banyard, Ian Blofield, Kath Sutton.
The committee thanked Sarah for all her hard work.
77.2. 2009 Events
Add to agenda for next meeting.
New events that we have been invited to in 2009:
Sunday 28th June - Barham Hall – The committee agreed.
Friday 10th July - WI Party, Trinity Park – The committee felt that it would be difficult for the band to commit to 5pm on Friday evening.
Sunday 2nd August - OCA – The committee agreed.
Stoke By Nayland Church – The committee agreed to consider a date in July for a concert.
New events that we have been invited to in 2010:
Saturday 13th February - Rector’s 60th Birthday, St. Mary’s, Woodbridge – The committee agreed.

79. Membership Secretary
Martin Owen (Alto Saxophone) has received an application form.
80. Librarian
80.1. Library
Trevor has said that the container will be emptied this week then we can arrange for a working party to move the library.
81. Concert Manager
Nothing to report.
82. Uniform
The committee agreed that we need to get this sorted as soon as possible as we have a number of members without jackets. Angela will email Marion to get the stock count information she has compiled so far.
83. Publicity
Roger has arranged for the Evening Star to do an article for the concert at All Hallows. A photographer will come along to one of the rehearsals.
84. Forthcoming Events
· Saturday 18th October 2008 – All Hallows Church, London
Trevor will load a van with the kit at the rehearsal before.
Coach will arrive at 8.30am and will leave Long Street, Suffolk College at 9.00am.
Rehearsal is at 12.30 – 1.00pm.
Band needs to return back to All Hallows at 2.45pm.
Concert starts at 3.15pm and will finish at 4.30pm.
· Sunday 9th November 2008 – Remembrance Day, Shotley Church
Roger has reprinted the hymns. Simon would like a rehearsal the Wednesday before. This will take place from 7.30 – 8.00pm, before the normal rehearsal.
· Saturday 29th November 2008 – Shotley Village Hall
Start at 7.30pm. The first half will be us in concert for 45 minutes. The second half will be carols and readings. Refreshments will be available.
84.1. Other Events
Nothing to report.
84.2. Trip 2009
The cost of the coach will be £3564.00. If the band subsidise the coach, this will reduce the cost of the trip by £75 pp if there are 48 people. The committee agreed that we must have a working band to make the trip viable and need to start collect deposits to ensure we have a commitment from the band.
