Minutes of the meeting of the Suffolk Concert Band
held on Thursday
9th June 2005 at 75 Chatsworth Drive
Those present were: Angela Bates, Simon Pulham, Mark Cheadle, Trevor
Daldry, Gordon Scopes, Toby Pratt.

Mandy Chinery, Sarah Scott, Deidre Gordon and Roger Jones.
47. Adoption of

These were agreed.
48. Matters arising
from meeting held on Thursday 5th May 2005
42) Alstons have donated some curtain material for Holy Trinity. Simon thanked Trevor for organising this and will speak to Val Sheppard about getting them made up.
49. Chairman
Bernard Reader has decided
not to do a new composition for Trafalgar day but will do a wind band
arrangement of a Sullivan sea shanty.
Roger is unavailable for the
rehearsal on Wednesday 29th June so Bernard is booked to do this.

50. Musical Director
Roger was not present but
had thanked everyone for the Suffolk Show. The committee agreed that if asked
we would like to do the Suffolk Show again next year. However, it was felt that
we should do longer slots with longer breaks and perhaps alternate the slots
with the other band playing and ensure that we are playing during the lunchtime
slot of 1-2pm. It was also agreed that the Suffolk Show should cover the
member’s expenses for food and drink.
51. Secretary
Correspondence this month:
· Request to play
at the Needham Market community carol service on Monday 12th
December. The committee agreed.
· Request to play
at a reunion barbecue for ex Suffolks in Peterborough on a Sunday afternoon in
June or July 2006. The committee agreed and Angela will write quoting that a
coach will cost £300 and our fee will be £250.

Report submitted via email:
Still no further information
regarding money owed by FADOS and Sods. Awaiting this from Simon.
Gift aid claim has been
submitted to the Inland Revenue for tax back but has not yet been received.
Gaye scheme showing
unidentified sum of £72 this month. Gordon to check if this is from the
Farthing’s. Tom Rumbold and Ken Blake have outstanding subs payments.

The Suffolk Show has been
invoiced for £900.
Simon is currently
organising a meeting between Deidre and Ray Wilson to hand over the Treasurer
responsibilities.
The committee agreed that we
should spend £200 on new percussion carrying equipment. We also require a new
glockenspiel abut it was agreed that we should investigate the possible refurbishment
of the current one before we go ahead.
Trevor reported that the
tuba case that he requires is £30 extra than the previously discussed case,
which was too small. The committee agreed that Trevor should go ahead with
this.

54. Librarian
It was agreed that there is
still too much music in the pads.
55. Concert Manager
Simon reported that the members (Russell, Sarah and Angela) who arrived early at the Suffolk Show did a good job of setting up.
56. Publicity
The posters for the Spa Pavilion have been done.
57. Rehearsal Venue
Nothing to report.
58. Recording
Mike Simmonds has been ill
therefore we have only had one concert recorded. It was agreed that we should
have a rethink about the recording and perhaps think about doing a proper
studio recording.
59. Forthcoming
Events
· Saturday 16th
July 2005 – Spa Pavilion, Felixstowe
Angela to find out what time
we will be allowed into the Spa Pavilion.
· Saturday 10th
September 2005 – St. Peters Church, Sheringham
Coach to arrive at 11.30am
ready to leave at 12pm.
· Saturday 15th
October 2005 – Mendlesham Community Centre
John Whelton has
been asked to conduct and it was agreed that this should be a “blue pad” job.
· Friday 21st
October 2005 – Needham Market Community Centre
John Whelton will be
conducting.
· Friday 28th
October 2005 – Suffolk College
This will be conducted by
both Roger and John Whelton.
59.1. Other Events
A possible date for the
Christmas Concert at Holy Trinity could be Wednesday 14th December.
Simon reminded the committee
that he would like the band to play at his 50th birthday on Sunday
10th December 2006.
Trevor asked if we could get
some dates for the joint concert with the Nottinghamshire Police band next
year. It was agreed that this should be in September at either Snape Maltings
or the Corn Exchange. Angela to call Snape Maltings with regards to prices and
dates. It was also suggested that we invite the Bury Male Voice Choir.
